Suiting Up

The sculpture depicts a lone individual, suiting up to go to work.

A solid figure determined and undaunted by the tasks that lie ahead. The sculpture will memorialize all of the union members as well as those who have lost their lives in the care of patients.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused great stress, uncertainty and exhaustion. It is our front line workers who have and continue to bear the brunt of this pandemic, holding the weight of this moment on their shoulders as they suit up to go to work everyday.

Challenge

After researching the subject of the female Nurses and women who have served the public, it is abundantly clear that there are far too few sculptures to commemorate women who have sacrificed all.  Our proposal sets out to create a memorial for SEIU staff and members. This memorial is not be tucked away in leafy corner but will stand right at the entrance SEIU as a daily reminder of the service and sacrifice of members who each day robe themselves in PPE as if they were donning Armour to go to battle against an invisible foe.
